The Power Of Communication: The Role Of Communication In Workplace Wellbeing Programs

You have 2.7 seconds to catch someone’s attention with your message. So, if you want your employees engaged in your workplace wellbeing program, it is critical to have an effective communication strategy. Clear, consistent, and engaging messaging helps build awareness, trust, and engagement among employees.

Messaging should include what, why, where, when, how and who:

  • What: “Here’s the vision for this program/activity…”
  • Why: “Why you should care,” “what’s in it for you”
  • Where & When: “This is when and where it happens…”
  • How: “Here’s what you need to do…”
  • Who: “We’re here to help if you have questions or concerns”

Keep the audience in mind - make sure messages clearly communicate what’s in it for them. Employees will be more likely to engage if this is emphasized. Also important: keep it simple!

How the message is delivered is also important. Use multiple methods to reach employees, such as email, posters, intranet, in-person announcements, social media or text messaging. And send multiple reminders – on average, people need seven reminders to gain their attention.

Bottom line – an effective communication strategy is critical to a successful wellness program. If you want help developing a communication strategy to elevate your workplace wellbeing program, contact your Univera Healthcare wellbeing engagement consultant or account manager.
