March Wellbeing Tip: Food As Medicine

The food you choose every day has a powerful impact on your health, energy, and overall wellbeing. The concept of “food as medicine” highlights how nourishing eating habits—paired with positive lifestyle choices—can help prevent and manage disease, boost your energy, and help you feel your best.

Good nutrition fuels your body and mind. The foods you eat supply the essential nutrients that keep your brain sharp, muscles strong, bones healthy, skin glowing, and immune system resilient. Healthy eating also plays a key role in protecting against illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, and osteoporosis.

A balanced, nutritious diet focuses on whole, minimally processed foods, including:

  • A variety of colorful fruits and vegetables
  • Lean proteins such as poultry, fish, tofu, and beans
  • Healthy fats from sources like olive oil, nuts, seeds, and avocado
  • Whole grains such as oats, quinoa, and brown rice
  • No-sugar-added dairy or alternatives
  • Legumes, lentils, and other plant-based protein sources
