Navigating food choices during the holiday season can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to maintain balance. If you’ve ever felt guilt or anxiety around holiday eating, you’re not alone. Balancing indulgence with intention can be difficult, but there are several ways to set yourself up for success this holiday season.
- Eat mindfully: It can be easy to graze during gatherings. Try to stay present, focus on socializing instead of food and monitor how your body feels with each bite.
- Stay fueled: Skipping meals can lead to overeating. Stick to regular, balanced meals and listen to your hunger cues.
- Balance your plate: Add lean proteins and colorful veggies alongside your favorite treats. Smaller portions or sharing can help you feel satisfied without feeling sluggish.
- Hydrate wisely: Choose water or herbal tea most of the time. If you opt for a sugary or alcoholic drink, try limiting it to one or choosing a smaller size.
- Plan ahead: A healthy snack before events can help curb cravings and support mindful choices.
- Give yourself grace: While the holiday season can be a time of joy, it may bring feelings of stress, grief, and loneliness. Some people respond to the stress by drinking too much or over-eating/under-eating. Our Care Managers are here to support your overall health.
