Changes to the Small Health Options Program (SHOP) Process

New SHOP groups

Effective April 1, 2018, the New York State of Health (NYSOH) began sending groups that have been approved to enroll through the SHOP directly to insurers for enrollment purposes.

What does this mean for you?

New SHOP groups can now enroll directly with Univera Healthcare, following the process that is used for small group coverage.  Groups will be subject to all Univera Healthcare new group underwriting guidelines and required paperwork, which includes providing a copy of the group’s SHOP certification form from New York State.

SHOP groups renewing on or after July 1, 2018

Current SHOP groups renewing on or after July 1, 2018, will have a change to their current process.  Notification will be sent from the NYSOH advising that a group must renew directly with Univera Healthcare. Please contact your Univera Healthcare representative to renew an active SHOP group.

  • Groups will be subject to all Univera Healthcare new group underwriting guidelines and required paperwork.  No initial check will be required.
  • In addition to the above, new subscriber applications must be completed upon renewal.
  • A new SHOP group number will be created, and new identification numbers for current members will be sent. Subscribers will receive new ID cards upon renewal.

Please visit our website at UniveraHealthcare.com to review our Group Administrator Guide and view our member enrollment options.
